Contributions to the Research and Education  in Ophthalmology

Matthias J. Monhart

Through the past 20+ years I have transitioned from an electronics and software developer to an expert in structural and functional testing, leading hardware and software projects to success - e.g. the Haag-Streit Octopus© 900, the EyeSuite™ Software in general and more specifically the EyeSuite Perimetry software.

In my recent past I contributed significantly to the success of the ZEISS HFA3 and lead a research team to develop the next generation standard of care test program – the 24-2C which is available on the HFA3 and can be considered the new standard in Glaucoma testing.  I consulted students in their diploma projects and thesis utilizing VR technology in visual functional testing: a field with an enormous potential.

In all this I try to put technology in the service of patients and consider the simple yet meaningful visualization of information as key factor for success – something I deem valid for most all areas.

Publications and contributionsI

It was my pleasure to author in 2020 - together with Paul Artes - a review and outlook on perimetry: “Eine kurz(weilige) Geschichte der Perimetrie / Une histoire divertissante de la périmetrie” in the 25 year anniversary edition of the Swiss Ophta Journal of Ophthalmology.
